About Phil


With over 25 years of experience spanning Simulation, Engineering, ICT, and Technical Service Delivery, Philip Sammons is a seasoned Product Owner at Contour Advisory. He leads the Research and Development (R&D) portfolio, driving innovation through emerging technologies and deep domain expertise in defence, government, and advanced technology environments.


Philip has a strong foundation in software development, DevOps, systems integration, electronics, and robotics, paired with a strategic focus on solution architecture, requirements engineering, and project delivery. His technical and operational experience includes significant contributions to cybersecurity, simulation environments, and the automation of services across major government infrastructures, including the Australian Parliament House.


Throughout his career, he has delivered impactful outcomes across various Defence departments, including DDG, SEG, DLTE, JLC, and DLTC, playing pivotal roles in shaping secure, scalable, and interoperable solutions.


Philip has worked extensively with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) on high-profile simulation and training programs—spanning both synthetic and live environments. He has architected and deployed complex simulation systems to enhance Defence capabilities, ensuring full compliance with military standards and operational interoperability.


At Contour, Philip leads a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering agile product cycles and aligning development priorities with strategic goals. He has overseen end-to-end delivery of advanced user interfaces, back-end systems, and data platforms, leveraging both traditional and AI-driven technologies. Key projects include a blockchain-enabled academic skills passport, a distributed common control interface for Robotic Autonomous Systems (RAS) in collaboration with a team of Undergraduate ANU students, and the delivery of a next-generation Defence training environment for the Australian Defence College—involving full-stack development, database integration, UX/UI design, and sandbox DevOps deployment.


Philip’s career reflects a commitment to technical excellence, innovation, and secure, scalable delivery across critical sectors—making him a driving force behind Contour’s vision for the future of Defence technology.
